Wonderlic Scores Explained
Updated October 27, 2026
“What’s a good Wonderlic score?” is one of the most common questions about the test. The short answer: on the classic 50-question cognitive test, the average is about 20 correct, and there’s no single passing score. Here’s how to think about your score.
How the classic test is scored
The classic Wonderlic cognitive test has 50 questions and a 12-minute time limit. Your score is basically the number of questions you answer correctly. Most people don’t reach all 50, and the questions get harder toward the end.
What’s average, and what’s good
- About 20 correct is average on the classic test.
- 25 or more is above average.
- Very high scores, in the 30s and up, are uncommon.
Newer versions, such as the cognitive part of Wonderlic Select, may report results differently, for example as percentiles compared with other test takers. Read the instructions and any score report your employer shares.
There’s no universal passing score
Employers decide what score they’re looking for, based on what predicts success in the job you applied for. A score that’s fine for one role might be below what a more demanding role expects. If you’re not sure what a particular employer is looking for, ask your recruiter or hiring contact.
Can you retake it?
Retake rules are set by the employer, not by Wonderlic.
How to raise your score
Most questions aren’t hard; the time limit is the challenge. Practising the question types until you recognize them instantly is the best way to answer more questions correctly in 12 minutes. Start with math, verbal and logic practice.
